As a few people have said in their reviews, the Clinique clarifying lotion, which is step two in their three step skincare regime is not for the faint hearted! This stuff smells so strongly of nail varnish remover that it gave me a headache each time I used it. So unfortunately for me, even though this did a great job of leaving my skin fresh and squeaky clean, now that I've finished the bottle I will not be repurchasing. If you are sensitive to strong smells then this is definitely not for you.

I am in my late 20's/early 30's with combination, fair tone skin and blue eyes. My hair is red, normal with fine texture.
I was looking for a good skin care routine to help improve the condition of my skin and, having looked up reviews, settled on the Clinique 3-step routine, though I have used this exfoliator by itself as well.
Overall, I have been really pleased with the 3-step routine (I also use the Clinique liquid facial soap which I absolutely love, and the Clinique dramatically different moisturiser which is also very good); it has left my skin looking healthier, smoother, better conditioned and just brighter in general. My makeup also goes on much more smoothly and stays on much better.
I have combination skin with quite an oily t-zone and I will say on the positive side that this product really does exfoliate your skin well leaving it feeling wonderfully clean and refreshed. Having used this for a while, I don't tend to get quite as oily a t-zone as normal, with less shine. It has helped to reduce blackheads and reduced the size of my pores as well, which I love.
However, it can be quite severe and often leaves my skin quite tight and in need of moisture. Even after using the Clinique dramatically different moisturiser afterwards, I have still developed some drier, flakier patches on my face, which I then need to use a stronger moisturiser for. It also doesn't necessarily help to fight spots, though by helping to improve the general condition of the skin, it means that a breakout isn't as noticeable as normal and any redness has been reduced.
I have given it 3 stars as I wouldn't use it on its own, it really can be quite abrasive, but as part of a good skin care routine it is very good. It properly cleanses the skin and leaves it feeling much cleaner than anything I have used before, and more ready to accept moisturiser. My skin feels really cleansed and revitalised; I would probably just recommend using it sparingly, especially in colder months.
If I was giving a score for the 3-step routine, I would give it 4.5 stars.

Step 2 of 3 in the suggested routine by Clinique.
Like I say, I’m normally a huge fan of Clinique but this Clarifying lotion is awful for the face. It’s so strong, it’s literally like putting nail polish remover on your skin. The fumes catch my breath, literally and it stings my eyes and burns my skin.
The only positive is that it makes you feel really clean after using it as it removes every trace of everything from your face.
I wouldn’t recommend this 3 step regime to anybody, I really wouldn’t.

I really like this toner. Having tried both this and Clinique number 3, I think that number 2 is more suited to my skin type. Having combo skin on the oily side, especially in the tzone, I do enjoy the clean feeling of an alcohol based toner. This one doesn’t dry my skin out to excess but I do think although the initial feeling of an alcohol toner is lovely, it is probably is stripping my skin of essential (albeit annoying) oils.

There are 3 products which are essential to my temperamental skin being happy and this is one of them. Whenever I’ve strayed and tried other products I’ve always lived to regret it. No more regrets I’m sticking with you baby!

Ive been using this product for months now and i have found several things. I really love this product because it makes my skin feel clean and make up free, i just swipe this on a cotton pad all over my face after removing my makeup and you can see on the pad all the hidden make up that didnt come off the first time round. However, i would avoid putting this near your eyes as it can make them sting as it does to mine when i accidently get it in my eyes. Finally the product smells like nail polish remover which isnt very pleasent but i still really enjoy this and would recommend.

As a 3 step newbie, have used this for a month now and I am mega impressed with the improvement in my complexion. Used in conjunction with the facial soap, my skin is smoother, softer and clearer. No more blackheads and dry scaly patches, my skin looks fresher and better than it has done for years. There is a slight fragrance with this toner but it is a trash, clean smell and it doesn't dry out my skin like traditional toners. Perfect for removing the last traces of makeup. No need for separate exfoliators either. £17.50 but lasts ages as need only a little to go a long way. Amazing product.

I have used Clinique products for 15 years now. I go off and try something new but always end up going back to Clinique. I absolutely love this toner. It gives abit of a tingle and makes your face feel so fresh and clean after use. I use the foaming soap cleanser before, then this and I finish it off with Clinique moisture surge moisturiser. Love Clinique.

I recieved this product as a sample and only tried it twice but the alcohol smell was too overpowering for me. I did not like the idea of putting this on my skin at all. I know many people love this toner but for me I would rather steer clear.

It was interesting because it did do an overall good job, and did leave my skin feeling exxtremely clean, however i did not like te senation of it while it was cleaning as it did burn abit. I am not sure whether this is because off my skin type, however i would not buy it again because it didnt feel quite right for me
